A Nonprofit corporation is a legal entity created under state law to conduct business for charitable, educational or humanitarian work. A nonprofit corporation must have a charter granted by the state before it is allowed to conduct business. Nonprofit corporations are not automatically tax exempt under 501(c)(3) or other sections of the Internal Revenue Code by filing articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State. Nonprofit corporations must make an Application for Recognition of Exemption to the IRS for exempt status. Ernie Lee has worked extensively in the nonprofit arena, both as an Executive Director of a nonprofit corporation as well as serving on several boards providing oversight and guidance.
